The Film Buff has been a longstanding landmark on Toronto’s Roncesvalles Avenue. When the owners wanted to re-open and re-brand as a coffee shop, Design Holmen was brought in to help them transition. The new brand honoured the story-telling past of the beloved video store while playing off the name of the new cafe. Three identities were created and accompanied by outlandish quotes exclaimed by a true local hero: riding a moose, fighting a giant raccoon and lifting a horse over his head while flying an airplane.
While the coffee shop has moved on, the legend lives on. I think of the rake-wielding hero fighting off the massive racoon every time I pass by.
