The Bentway / Wayfinding

Underneath Toronto’s Gardiner Expressway is a unique and innovative public space called The Bentway. It has quickly become a new gathering place for the city’s growing population. In 2016, as the space was nearing completion Design Holmen was hired to complete a wayfinding strategy and design alongside partners Sabrina Richards (Bespoke) and Kristina Ljubanovic. The team found a site full of wonderful wayfinding opportunities: massive scale, a linear and intuitive numbering system, access from any direction, and a discovery: looking through the Bentway was like looking through a viewfinder. Donor signage was also completed in 2019.
